We’ll depart from Moshi/Arusha early in the morning and drive straight to Tarangire National Park. The park’s landscape is awe-inspiring, dotted with colossal termite mounds (some of which are now home to Mr. and Mrs. Mongoose and their entire little family) and ancient baobab trees, alongside golden savannah. The park benefits from a year-round water supply, which is why it is so rich in wildlife. Bird lovers will not be disappointed, as the park hosts over 550 species of birds, including the world’s largest: the Maasai ostrich. (Yes, Tarangire may be a small park, but it attracts the biggest animals!)

You’ll have a great view from the open roof of your sturdy 4×4, so get your camera ready for sightings of giraffes, warthogs, impalas, cheetahs, mongooses, buffalo, and baboons. Look up into the trees to spot one of Tarangire’s famous climbing leopards, and look closer—could that be a python? But don’t forget those elephants! You’ll see herds of elephants of all ages, from bachelor herds to female groups that include babies, teenagers, young mothers, and older matriarchs. You might also spot a majestic bull elephant traveling alone. After a stop for a tasty lunch in a picturesque and safe location (we certainly don’t want you to become lunch), you’ll spend the afternoon back in the 4×4, soaking in all the sights and sounds of this delightful little park. We’ll return you to Moshi/Arusha, arriving in the cool of the evening.
