Tour Itinerary

Tour Plan

1 Drive from Moshi to Materuni Village

Start your adventure with a short and interesting drive from Moshi up the green slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro to Materuni, about 1,800 meters above sea level. This area is known for its gardens and has the perfect climate and soil to grow some of the best coffee in Africa. You’ll visit a coffee farm to see how coffee is grown, harvested, and processed. You’ll even try roasting and making a fresh cup of coffee the Chagga way.

After a tasty coffee break (much better than the ones at work!), you’ll take a beautiful 45-minute hike through the hills and valleys on the way to Materuni Falls. You’ll pass banana and coffee plantations, cross small valleys, and walk along narrow streams. Along the way, your guide will tell you about local plants and how they are used for food and traditional medicine, giving you more insight into Chagga culture.

This is a great chance to ask questions about a lifestyle that might be very different from yours! You’ll hear the Falls before you see them, and once they come into view, you might even see a rainbow as the water catches the sunlight. The Falls are hidden in a lovely valley with cliffs rising 200 feet above. The mountain water falls straight down in a shimmering curtain, splashing into a pool where you can float, swim, and relax. The water is cool and refreshing after your hike!
