This is one of the best Tanzania wildlife safari holidays. A migration safari allows you to witness the Great Wildebeest Migration, where over 2 million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles move through the Serengeti and Masai Mara ecosystems in search of green pastures and safe calving grounds. The best chance to see river crossings on a Serengeti Wildebeest Migration Safari is around July and August, when the wildebeest migrate from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the Masai Mara in Kenya, or around September and October when they cross back. July marks the start of the Masai Mara River crossing as well as the mating season in the Serengeti. It is the time of year when wildebeest herds begin moving faster in search of water and greener grass, making their way across the Grumeti and Mara Rivers.

The northern region is home to a variety of wildlife, including zebras, topis, gazelles, buffaloes, leopards, and lions. You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch during this full-day drive. As usual, after a hearty breakfast, you will begin your day at 8 AM. Between mid-June and September, the migration can be found in this region. During these months, the Mara River offers the most dramatic river crossings of the Great Migration. Fierce, deep, and rain-fed, the river takes a heavy toll on the migrating wildebeest. Watching the wildebeest surge through the strong currents, with some drowning and others falling prey to lurking crocodiles, is an unforgettable sight. If you’re lucky, you may witness this natural wonder and watch nature take its course. Following the migration, you might even venture toward the Lobo Valley. The pristine Lobo Valley is scattered with woodlands, plains, hills, and the famous granite kopjes. It offers an abundance of big cats, including lions, leopards, and cheetahs. During the dry season, the valley’s permanent water sources attract plenty of resident and migratory animals, making for excellent game viewing. During the full-day game drive, you’ll stop for a picnic lunch. The day will conclude with a delicious dinner and a restful night at your accommodation.

The four-hour drive to the heart of the Serengeti will offer some mild game viewing along the way. The journey from the Mara River Valley takes you through hill country, the Lobo area, woodlands, and back into the Seronera region. The central Serengeti, known as the Seronera area, is one of the park’s richest wildlife habitats. It features the Seronera River, a vital water source that attracts a variety of wildlife, representative of most Serengeti species. As you approach the Seronera region, you’ll notice the hilly, rugged landscape giving way to open grasslands. In Seronera, be on the lookout for the many lion prides that thrive here. Their interactions and survival provide an excellent game viewing experience year-round. You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch during this full-day drive.
After exploring the park, you will be transferred to your lodge for the night.

The Serengeti is home to the ‘Big Five’ — lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard — and today you might be able to check off all members of this group. After lunch at a picnic site, you will head towards the Ngorongoro Crater. As you reach the edge of the crater, the vast caldera opens up before you. This approximately 20 km wide crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to over 25,000 animals. You will then drive to the lodge, where you can enjoy the sunset over the crater.

A significant portion of the park is covered by the alkaline Lake Manyara, which hosts colonies of flamingos and other water birds. In addition to giraffes, hippos, wildebeests, and impalas on the plains, you may spot lions lounging in the trees and elephants feeding on acacias in the woodlands. The forest near the lake is alive with noisy troops of blue monkeys, while large families of baboons gather near the roads. After the game drive, you will return to Arusha/Moshi or Airport in the late afternoon.
