Tour Overview

Overview

The Lemosho route is regarded as the most scenic trail on Kilimanjaro, offering panoramic vistas from various sides of the mountain. As one of the newer routes, Lemosho is an excellent choice for your climb. It is our preferred route due to its ideal balance of low crowds, beautiful scenery, and a high summit success rate. We specialize in guiding on the Lemosho route, and most of our clients who climb Kilimanjaro using this route consistently report that they loved their experience. Therefore, Lemosho comes highly recommended.

The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the west, beginning with a long drive from Moshi to Lemosho Gate in Kilimanjaro National Park. The first two days are spent trekking through the rainforest to Shira Ridge. The Lemosho route crosses the entire Shira Plateau from west to east, featuring a pleasant and relatively flat hike. Crowds are minimal until the route joins the Machame route near Lava Tower. Afterward, the trek traverses beneath Kilimanjaro’s Southern Ice Field on a path known as the Southern Circuit before summiting from Barafu. The descent is made via the Mweka route.

Tanzania Giants Tours offers the Lemosho route as either an eight-day or a seven-day group or private climb. The seven-day variation combines days two and three, allowing hikers to go from Mti Mkubwa to Shira Two Camp without staying at Shira One Camp. Additionally, a nine-day variation, which includes an overnight stay at Crater Camp, is available as a private climb upon special request.
