Tour Overview

Overview

The Marangu route, also known as the Coca-Cola route, is the least expensive path to the summit. It is also the only route that offers the comfort of sleeping huts at every campsite, equipped with solar lights and comfortable beds. The huts are communal, with bunks that have sponge mattresses and pillows.

There are 60 beds at both Mandara and Kibo Huts, and 120 beds at Horombo Hut. Bathrooms and running water are available at the two lower huts, which are Mandara and Horombo. Men’s and ladies’ latrines are available at the last hut, which is Kibo, but they are quite basic. All climbing groups, often from various countries around the world, share meals in dining huts, creating a lively and energetic atmosphere.

This route is typically completed in 5 days (the shortest route to the summit), but it can be extended to 6 days for better acclimatization. The extra day can be spent resting at Horombo or climbing the small peak of Mawenzi.
