Route Overview
At a height of 4,566 meters (14,980 ft), Mount Meru is a dormant strato volcano located in Arusha National Park, 70 Kilometres (43 miles) west of Mount Kilimanjaro in the country of Tanzania. Typically Mount Meru Climb takes four days, but it can be done in 3 days to complete a trek to the Summit.

Route Itinerary
Day 1: Momela Gate (1500m) to Meriakamba Hut (2500m)
7km /4.35mi | 4-5 hrs | Rainforest
Elevation: 1830m/6000ft to 2740m/9000ft
After breakfast at your hotel, the chief guide will give you a short briefing about the mountain. You will then drive for about an hour to Momela Gate, spend a few minutes doing registration while your guides and porters are packing your equipment and supplies. Your chef will give you lunch box at this point.
Hiking starts from Momela Gate (1500m) to Meriakamba Hut (2500m) with your guide and full armed ranger escorting you. While trekking you will see wild animals like giraffe, zebras, monkeys, antelopes, buffalos, etc. On this day you will hike about 10km which takes 4-6 hours including lunch time. You will have dinner at Meriakamba Hut and spend your night there.
Day 2: Meriakamba Hut (2500m) to Saddle Hut (3500m)

Elevation: 2740m/9000ft to 3690m/12,100ft
The hike today is short and steep compared to the first day. Hiking starts from Meriakamba Hut (2500m) along the ridge for a great view of the Meru Crater and the inspiring ash cone to Saddle Hut (3500m) where you will have hot lunch. You will have a short break after lunch, then acclimatizing by climbing Little Meru up to the top (3801m).
The trekking distance is 8km which takes 3-4 hours excluding Little Meru.
Day 3: Saddle Hut (3500m) to Socialist Peak (4562.13m) to Meriakamba Hut (3500m)
10km/6.21mi | 6-8hrs | Semi Desert
Elevation: 3690m/12,100ft to 4695m/15,400ft
This will be a tough day, whereby the hike starts around 01.30 am from Saddle Hut (3500m) to Socialist Peak (4562.13m). The path will take you through a gentle steep trail to the Cobra Point (4350m). You will have a few minutes to rest and have snacks before you proceed trekking through gravel and rocky ridges. Finally, you will enjoy breathtaking view of the Meru Creator and ash con at the summit. You will descend to Saddle Hut for snacks then proceed to Meriakamba Hut. The total distance today is 19km for about 10-12 hours.
Day 4: Meriakamba Hut (2500m) to Momela Gate (1500m)
14km /9mi down | 5-6hrs | Glaciers, Snow Capped Summit
Elevation: 4695m/15,400ft to 5895m/19,340ft
Descent to 3690m/12,100ft
This is the last day on this Mountain; you will descend from Meriakamba Hut (2500m) to Momela Gate (1500m). Your vehicle will be waiting for you at the gate and you will start your trip back to the hotel after signing out. The descending distance for this day is 5.5km which takes 3 – 4 hours.
